Viktoria & Woods – Armadale

Reimagining Viktoria & Woods’ flagship store, this design gracefully embraces the building’s double-height volume, inviting customers to explore and commune with the effortless sophistication of the Australian label. Entering through the store’s quaint, historic shopfront, the interior offers a dramatic expansion of space, its split-level framed as a sectional composition of forms that draws customers in.

A bespoke circular table and accompanying console, crafted by Melbourne furniture designer, Zachery Frankel, offers an initial retail touchpoint, evocatively layered against abstract works by Sydney artist Sara Mugnes. Ascending to a communal ‘living room’ surrounded by retail displays, a robust, marble-clad sales counter foregrounds the textures and silhouettes of Viktoria & Woods’ collections. The store’s lofty ceiling rakes to a secondary, Marmorino rendered façade – a graphic arrangement of vignettes framing the fitting rooms, stairwell, and styling suite above.

Honed concrete floors transition to coffee-toned carpets, complementing the store’s rich material palette, combining brown marble, brushed nickel, walnut and tobacco-toned linen. A series of bespoke details offer depth and intrigue: a metal shelving niche punching through to the stair, underlit floating shelves and backlit mirrors, woven roman blind backdrops to the window displays and a thoughtful selection of decorative light fittings, sculptural furniture, vintage accents, and Australian art.
