Viktoria & Woods – The Strand

This compact boutique, set in one of Sydney’s most historic malls, is thoughtfully shaped around a central, tiered counter – an elemental piece, clad in soft grey and white marble with gold highlights. Its robust, monolithic form conceals a discreet, integrated seat for customers to settle into, while its weighty, stone finish finds contrast in fine, inset jewellery displays.

Fixed garment rails, finished in brushed nickel, scale the length of the store, displaying Viktoria & Woods’ seasonal collections against a nuanced backdrop of hand rendered Marmorino walls. A curved bulkhead and upholstered display soften the angularity of the building, while a veil of linen curtains accentuates its lofty ceilings, gently concealing two fitting rooms.

Here, bespoke plastered wall lights create warmth and intimacy, and hand turned stools, crafted by Melbourne furniture designer, Zachery Frankel, using naturally fallen timber, echo the brand’s sustainable ethos. Throughout, neutral tones prevail, punctuated by accents of periwinkle blue – a subtle ode to The Strand’s heritage colour palette. Classic timber floors, sisal carpets, and a delicate, vintage Italian Murano lamp, aglow at the store’s centre, further accentuate the store’s historic charm.
